Audi is preparing the Q9: the huge seven-seat SUV is coming for the U.S.
Audi’s range is moving upward with a large SUV aimed at the American market and at premium rivals.
Audi is speeding up its commercial push in the United States with a model that marks an important step in the brand’s strategy: a large three-row SUV, set to sit at the top of the range. The project, known as the Q9, is expected to fill a gap in the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer’s lineup, especially in a segment where demand for big, versatile vehicles remains very strong in America.
For the German automaker, the goal is twofold: strengthen its presence in the U.S. market and defend a premium territory currently dominated by rivals such as BMW, Mercedes and Lexus. An SUV of this size is not just about image, but also about margins: larger, better-equipped models are often the most profitable ones. In Europe, a vehicle like this would likely be a niche product, but in the United States it can become strategically important.
The new model is expected to sit above the current Q7 and answer the needs of affluent families and buyers looking for comfort, space and status. It remains to be seen which powertrains will be chosen and whether, alongside combustion versions, an electrified variant will also arrive. One thing is clear: Audi does not want to simply follow the American market, but intends to take the offensive.
