Iran offers new cars at $4,300, but almost nobody can buy them
Local automakers sell ultra-cheap models, yet inflation and low incomes make them hard to afford.
In Iran, local carmakers are offering new vehicles with sticker prices of around $4,300, a figure that looks extremely low on paper. In practice, however, it remains out of reach for many people: depressed wages, high inflation and limited access to credit make a purchase nearly impossible.
The result is a very unusual market, where a brand-new car should be affordable but ends up being out of reach for much of the population. Even the most basic models become something to chase, rather than a product truly available to the mass market.
