SsangYong CCR-1, the Korean electric prototype that arrived ahead of its time

In the 1990s, SsangYong put the CCR-1 on the road, an electric prototype created to explore a different kind of mobility when combustion engines still ruled the market. It was a technical exercise, but also a clear sign that electric cars were not a sudden new idea in Korea.

The project remains noteworthy because it anticipated themes that feel very current today: zero tailpipe emissions, efficiency research and a compact platform. It never reached production, but it helped outline a path that many Asian brands would follow years later.
